  • TikTok has unveiled a new feature that allows users to attach mini apps known as Jumps to their videos, allowing them to link videos to these apps. The feature is currently being tested with a select group of creators and will be rolled out to a wider group of people post-testing.

The company is working with brands like Whisk, Wikipedia, and Tabelog in the development and beta stage of Jumps.

Viewers watching a video with a Jump will notice a button near the bottom of their screen that will launch new content on a new TikTok screen. Creators can use the feature to add Jumps and then customise the content that viewers see when they press the Jump button.  This feature will allow creators to attach links from third party applications and sources directly on their videos. Tapping on such links will direct users to the attached source immediately.

This will make it easier for users to directly link their audience to third parties they want them to refer to in accordance with the video.

Companies like BuzzFeed and IRL will soon have Jumps and all members of TikTok’s Creator Fund can access Jumps. Snapchat has a similar feature called Minis.

Though TikTok had been planning Jumps for some time now they will not be launching it immediately for a large number of people. The application will be launched for a smaller proportion of people first as a part of a survey so they can test, and make changes.
