Snapchat has partnered with Samsung to allow users to try on the new Galaxy Watch 3 in augmented reality (AR) off the back of the app developing wrist-tracking tech.
Snapchatters will be able to try on the gadget from the comfort of their own home thanks to some innovative wrist-tracking technology that materialises the timepiece in AR.
Giving new meaning to the term snapped wrist, the hi-tech pairing can be activated by simply opening the camera and scanning a proprietary QR code or manually selecting Samsung.
Customers interested in purchasing a Galaxy Watch 3 can try on a mix of faceplates and straps from the range to find the best fit – plus, of course, this being Snapchat, full Bitmoji support will be offered to fully customise the experience.
Then onwards, a handy ‘shop’ button will direct customers to the Samsung store to make the purchase.
Snapchat has been investing heavily in augmented reality, harnessing the creative potential of the medium for a range of commercial opportunities and social causes, notably by honouring forgotten Black footballers with virtual statues.
Samsung is itself no stranger to utilising VR to promote its watch wares.
