  • Facebook-owned Instagram is planning to test a new advertising feature. According to an online report, the social networking platform has started testing a new feature which will put ads on its Shop tab. Instagram introduced the Shops tab last year as part of its efforts to expand into the eCommerce space.

According to an online report, the new advertising feature will include ads that will either involve a single image or a carousel of them. Initially, only some of the advertisers will have access to it first, but the company will slowly expand the feature.

    A mobile-only advertising feature

Like the other advertising products, the ads in the Instagram’s Shop tab will have an auction-based model. The ads will only appear on mobile, as the Shop tab is mobile friendly. However, how many ads a user sees will be based on their frequency to use Instagram. The company will also monitor consumer sentiment and will maintain the balance between content and ads.
