  • At Google’s annual I/O conference, the tech giant announced that it is launching an experimental version of its search engine that includes text generation similar to the one powering ChatGPT. It would be called the Search Generative Experience (SGE).

The new and enhanced search still involves typing a query, and it still responds with links to websites, snippets of content, and ads. But the top of the page will feature text synthesised by the information pulled by AI from sources across the web. A user can ask follow up questions to get more specific information.

Additionally, Google demonstrated some new capabilities of its chatbot Bard. The chatbot has been endowed with several developer-friendly facets as well as consumer-centric changes such as access to a wide range of extensions from partners. The company also introduced a range of functions to its PaLM 2 large language model. The LLM is now trained on multilingual texts and supports over 100 languages across a range of functions.
